Description
15" (38 cm.) Standing upon a weighted-base paper mache ball with colorfully-painted decorations is a wooden clown with early two-part head, leather ears, attached flannel hat, delightfully grinning expression, painted clown decorations, and all-wooden body with distinctive and unusual carving of limbs and torso, and with painted decorations of multi-colored stripes centering a green cat on front torso. Original paper label on base "Schoenhut Rolly-Dolly" and patent dates of 1903, 1904, and 1905. Excellent structural condition, original finish with some rubs. American, Schoenhut, circa 1905, very rare early rolly-dolly with wonderful design, original paper label. Private collection Keith and Donna Kaonis.
