14" (36 cm.) Polychromed terra cotta shoulderhead of well-characterized man, bald pate with shadowed hair, beard and moustache stubble, modeled wart on forehead and chin, enamel eyes, impressed facial crinkles and cheek creases, strong nose, smiling expression with closed lips, tow-wrapped posable armature body, carved wooden lower arms and legs, painted wrinkled blue leggings, black shoes, wearing original costume comprising short textured pants, red silk vest with gilt threads, gold silk jacket, and carrying cast iron tools. Excellent condition. Neapolitan, mid-1700s, especially fine modeling with distinctive features including warts and hair and beard stubble.
