Description
20" (51 cm.) Standing upon a velvet-covered base is a bisque head doll iwth blue glass paperweight inset eyes, painted clown facial decorations, painted lashes and brows, open mouth with outlined lips, pierced ears, auburn fleecy wig, carton torso and legs, wire upper arms, composition hands, wearing bright clown costume and holding an over-sized lollipop. When wound, music plays, the the clown turns his head to the left and lifts the lollipop to his mouth; simultaneously, he sticks his tongue out, and at the same time his clown hat moves up and down in an amusing wagging motion. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Depose Tete Jumeau Bte SGDG 4 (head). Comments: Roullet et Decamps, circa 1890. Value Points: rare automaton with music and four movements including surpise "wagging hat".
