Description
10" (25 cm.) h. 8 1/2"l. The wooden chest of drawers has shaped high back with set-back jewelry drawer, wide handkerchief drawer, and a set-back high drawer, decorated with high crested back with scrolled edging, incised twisted-rope-shaped legs and columns, and having inlaid mother-of-pearl key mounts and metal knobs. The chest has red-mahogany stain and is paint decorated with gilt garlands and designs, and, on each side, a painting of a reindeer with antlers. An old paper label at the back indicates original family owners from Andover, Massachusetts, before acquisition by Alice Schott. Very good condition, one scroll broken. American, circa 1840, outstanding exuberant design and painted decoration.
