Description
22" (56 cm.) Porcelain shoulder head with plump facial shape, thick dark eyeliner, lightly painted lashes and brows, accented eye corners and nostrils, closed mouth with center accent line, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, French kid poupee body with gusset jointing at elbows, hips and knees, stitched and separated fingers, lovely black silk costume, undergarments, bonnet, shoes. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Brevete D.D. SGDG (body). Comments: Duval-Denis, circa 1861, which succeeded the Blampoix firm for only two years, 1861-1862; in 1863 the firm was curiously re-sold to Blampoix. Since no brevetes were registered to Duval-Denis, it is likely that the torso stamp refers to the earlier Blampoix patents whose rights were owned by Duval-Denis during their two years of ownership. Value Points: rare signed poupee with beautiful clarity of porcelain enhanced by delicate blush, richly outlined cobalt eyes.
