Description
17" (43 cm.) Bisque shoulderhead, sculpted short brown hair with arranged curls around the forehead, painted blue eyes with decorative lower glaze, black upper eyeliner, painted lashes, feathered brows, accented eye corners and nostrils, closed mouth with accented lips, kid poupee body with gusset jointing at elbows, hips and knees, wearing gentleman's suit, vest and cape. Condition: generally excellent, very sturdy body. Comments: Gaultier, circa 1865, their earliest poupee model, an identical example with black sculpted hair is shown in The Encyclopedia of French Dolls by Francois and Danielle Theimer, page 234. Value Points: rare doll with exceptional quality of sculpted hair, painted eyes, very sturdy body.
