Description
13" (33 cm.) Hidden within a firm-sided cone with amusing hand-painted silk cover is a bisque head doll with double-faces; on one side is a crying face with blue glass eyes and mouth modeled open as though crying, and on the other is a happy child with blue glass eyes and closed mouth. The marotte has a carved bone handle which is used to move the bisque head up from its hide-away inside the cone, twirl around to reveal the alternate faces, and then retract to hide the head. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: French, circa 1880. Value Points: very rare luxury quality marotte with intricate details, rare bisque heads.
