15" (38 cm.) Bisque swivel head on kid-edged bisque shoulderplate, blue glass enamel inset eyes, dark eyeliner, lightly-feathered brows and lashes, accented nostrils, closed mouth with accented lips, ears pierced into head, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, French stretched-kid-cover wooden body, with metal-hinge hip jointing covered by kid "baggy" upper legs, metal upper arms, bisque forearms, jointing at shoulders, elbows, hips and knees. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: E.2 B. (shoulderplate). Comments: French, circa 1867, with original commissioned bisque head by Eugene Barrois, the model of the doll's body was inspired by deposes originally filed by French toymaker Cruchet in 1852 and 1862; the expensive body was used by several luxury toy shops in Paris throughout the 1860s. Value Points: lovely gentle expression with well-detailed features, original sturdy body, perfect bisque hands, beautiful silk costume.
