11" (28 cm.) One-piece figure of a standing toddler, made of unknown very heavy weight material, with original glazed ebony complexion, with sculpted very tightly-curled short hair, sculpted facial features and body musculature and dimples, arms extended to the sides with forward-facing palms. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: maker unknown; in his book, Fascinating Dolls, Samy Odin describes the doll as poupard, and notes "Of very fine workmanship, probably French...it is possible that it is the master mold for a rubber poupard", late 1800s. Value Points: rare doll with intriguing mysterious background.
