Description
26" (66 cm.) Bisque socket head, very deep blue glass paperweight inset eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, rose blushed eye shadow, brushstroked and multi-feathered brows, shaded nostrils, closed mouth, shaded and outlined lips, separately-modeled pierced ears, brunette mohair wig over cork pate, French composition and wooden fully-jointed body with straight wrists. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Brevete SGDG Jumeau 12 (incised, and artist checkmarks) Jumeau Medaille d'Or Paris (body). Comments: Emile Jumeau, the depose model was introduced in 1885/86 and were his first systems for sleeping eyes; the system was unsuccessful and those heads which had been designed for this use (with a small drilled hole at the back of the head for placement of the turning knob) were simply presented with the in-demand classic paperweight eyes. The only qualities that denote the original intention are the unusual Jumeau incised marking and the factory-filled small hole at the back of head. Few examples of the luxury model exist, and especially in this large and expensive size. Value Points: rare model has exemplary bisque and painting, original body and body finish, original dress (wear to silk panel), undergarments, Jumeau socks and Jumeau signed shoes.
