19" (48 cm.) Paper mache shoulderhead of adult lady with perfectly-oval face, elongated strong throat, modeled bosom, blue enamel inset eyes with heavily-modeled eyelids, tinted brows, aquiline nose, closed mouth with center accent line, brown sculpted hair arranged with very long braids looped low around the ears and forming into a tightly-woven chignon at the back of head, firmly-stuffed cloth body with stitch-jointing at hips, carved wooden lower legs, painted shoes, fine early dress with fitted bodice and lantern sleeves, undergarments. Condition: very good, original finish with some few rubs. Comments: circa 1840. Value Points: very rare early paper mache with most refined demeanor, beautifully-sculpted hair, glass eyes.
