Description
19" (48 cm.) Parian-like bisque bust of an adult woman on bisque pedestal, her head inclined to the side with sculpted very heavily lidded downcast eyes, closed mouth modeled as though open with a row of sculpted teeth, sculpted long flowing brown hair beneath a sculpted rose bonnet with ruffled edge and long streamers, sculpted necklace and a bisque rose that is modestly tucked in the bodice of her decorated blouse. Condition: generally excellent, small flake on hat ruffle, small repair at back pedestal base. Marks: Lemaire (large incised letters at the back). Comments: the bust was sculpted by prominent French artist, Hector Lemaine and created by Henri Ardant & Cie; the piece can be precisely dated 1883/1885, during the two years that Lemaire designed for the Ardant firm. Value Points: very rare bust in grand size with superb detail and fine condition.
