18" (46 cm.) Bisque swivel head on kid-edged bisque shoulder plate, very full cheeks and chin, small amber brown glass paperweight inset eyes, thick dark eyeliner, painted black lashes, rose blushed eye shadow, brush-stroked brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with outlined lips, impressed dimple in chin, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, kid gusset-jointed body with gusset jointing at hips and knees, bisque arms to above the elbows, separately sculpted fingers. Condition: generally excellent, one-piece reglue of tip of right middle finger. Marks: 1 (head and shoulder). Comments: Leon Casimir Bru, circa 1878, his first model of bebe. Value Points: the exquisite beauty of the rare early gentle-faced bebe is achieved by subtle blushing and dramatically painted eyes, original body and body finish, very beautiful antique costume and bonnet.
