Description
14" (36 cm.) Bisque shoulder head, cobalt blue glass inset eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes and brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, open mouth with outlined lips and double row of teeth, carton torso and full length carton skirt which encloses early version of the deposed mechanism with some wooden parts, hidden wheeled base. When wound the doll glides forward and in circles, raising arms and crying "mama". Condition: generally excellent, mechanism functions well. Marks: J. Steiner fabricant, Rue de Saintonge, No. 25, Paris (original paper label on carton skirt). Comments: Jules Steiner, circa 1867. Value Points: lovely antique costume (some frailty to skirt fabric), beautiful face with rich cobalt eyes, original Steiner paper label on the early model of the deposed poupee.
