Description

14"l. The dark wood rocking cradle has generous carvings including spindled cut-outs for healthy air flow as well as decoration, and a heart-shaped handle. There is a double bottom, with dried peas between the two layers, creating a soothing rattle sound when the cradle is rocked. A similar full-size cradle is owned by the Danish National Museum according to Estrid Faurholt who featured the cradle in her Book of Dolls and Dollhouses alongside the preceding doll, entitling the doll and cradle pair "Measles and Dried Peas". Early 19th century.
