17" (43 cm.) Solid domed paper mache swivel head on paper mache shoulderplate, ebony black complexion with sculpted tightly-curled hair, black enamel inset eyes, closed mouth with full red lips, muslin midriff, upper legs and upper arms, paper mache lower torso, hands and feet, and wooden lower arms and legs, jointed ankles and wrists, antique blue woolen costume. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Germany, circa 1875, the model inspired by the body of the Japanese Ichimatsu play doll. Value Points: rarely found with superb original black complexion and sculpted hair, original body.
