Description
16" (41 cm.) h. seated. Seated upon a gilded wooden chair with fancy carving is a bisque-head doll, posed as though knitting, having bisque socket head, brown glass eyes, slightly-parted lips, tiny porcelain teeth, brunette mohair wig, carton torso and upper legs, bisque lower arms and hands. When wound, she nods her head forward and back and moves her eyes side to side as though examining her knitting, while her hands move back and forth in a realistic knitting activity, and music plays. Condition: generally excellent, music and mechanism function well. Marks: 1039 Germany Simon & Halbig. Comments: Roullet et Decamps, circa 1900, the model appeared in their catalog as "Bebe Tricoteur", #256. Value Points: the bebe is wearing her original aqua silk dress with Alencon lace, and is seated in luxury quality French chair with gold leaf finish.
