Description
18" (46 cm.) l. x 11"s. x 7"h. Of fine exotic woods, the sewing box is decorated on the exterior and interior with oil-painted scenes of Austrian mountain scenes, including Castle Orth, and with most of the scenes featuring persons in various boating, hiking, fishing, or contemplating moods. Each of the fourteen different miniature paintings is edged with pressed gilt paper or metal, and there are four ball-shaped metal feet, fancy bail handles at each side, and carved bone knobs on each of the eight interior compartment lids. Excellent condition. Vienna, circa 1800.
