Description
14" (36 cm.) x 11". The wooden box has decorative paper covers with floral design which surround a gilt lettered "mercerie" and hinge open to well-fitted interior containing brass stencil letters for embroidery design, various samplers, fabrics, threads, and tools. The upper tray lifts out to reveal a fitted bottom layer with a number of stencil designs. Excellent condition. French, circa 1890, the set was designed as a working tool for young ladies developing needlework skills. Near mint condition.
