Description
23" (58 cm.) Standing upon a rose velvet covered wooden base is a bisque-head man with blue glass paperweight inset eyes, brush-stroked brows, painted lashes, blushed eye shadow, slightly parted lips, blonde mohair wig, very slender elongated carton torso and shapely legs, bisque hands, wearing the costume of an aristocratic dandy including a beautifully detailed rose satin jacket with tails, pantaloons, silk vest with metallic edging, lace jabot, knit stockings, rose satin shoes and ivory silk tricorn hat. He has a cigarette holder in his right hand and a handkerchief in his left. When wound, music plays, he turns his head from side-to-side and nods, drawing the cigarette holder to his lips, inhales, turns toward his left and lifts the hankie while exhaling, thus appearing to brush away the smoke. Condition: generally excellent, faint hairline at right crown rim into corner of right brow, music and mechanism function well. Marks: L.B. (key). Comments: Leopold Lambert, Paris, circa 1890, a series of "smokers" with various themes were created by the firm. Value Points: beautiful presentation of rare model with "smoking" action.
