13" (33 cm.) Carved wooden socket head with gofun complexion, narrow enamel eyes with pronounced eyelids, feathered brows, closed mouth in solemn downcast expression, black painted pate, carved wooden torso and lower arms and legs, bare feet, padded crepe upper arms and legs. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Japan, early 1900s. Value Points: included with the very expressive ningyo are 12 interchangeable wigs (each a different style) in male style, and, in addition to the elaborate costume which he wears, are two additional costumes, each with sewn-in cloth English-language label. indicating "Samurai warrior" or "Priest".
