Description
16" (41 cm.) Bisque socket head, deep blue glass paperweight inset eyes, painted lashes and brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth, shaded and outlined lips, impressed philtrum and chin dimple, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over Steiner pate, French composition fully-jointed body with straight wrists. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: *88 (impressed) Au Defi Rue Thiers Marseille (red stamp on head). Comments: Steiner, circa 1890, the model known as "Phenix Star", this doll made for special commission for the French doll boutique of Au Defi. Value Points: especially pretty example of this model has original wig, pate, body, ine original body finish and wears antique costume and leather shoes.
