Description
14" (36 cm.) l. 7"h. Posed upon a wooden base are a die-cut tinplate man and woman, each with painted hair, features, and Tyrolean costume, and each with one hinged arm. The man stands behind a saw horse and is holding a saw, and the woman, posed behind a chopping block log, wields a hammer in her left arm. When wound, the man and woman vigorously chop the wood; the mechanism is hidden behind the wooden rack of logs at the center. Condition: generally excellent. Functions well. Comments: rare mechanical toy with ingenious and imaginative actions, original painting, circa 1890.
