Description
13" (33 cm.) Bisque socket head with distinctively-sculpted features inspired by the illustrations of Thomas Nast, brown glass eyes, thick brushstroked grey brows, deeply-incised age lines with red outlines, very pronounced nose, jutting chin, closed mouth, brunette human hair, Sonneberg composition and wooden fully-jointed body. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: S 1 Germany. Comments: Cuno and Otto Dressel from a series of American historical heroes, circa 1890s, curiously this depiction of Uncle Sam is smiling in a gentle benign manner, while the Nast drawing depicts an accusatory powerful man. Value Points: factory original, wearing classic (slightly faded) stars and stripes costume.
