20" (51 cm.) l. x 18"h. x 12"d. The fine mahogany-cased parlor or portable organ has inlay marquetry designs on the front facade of birds and foliage, a woodcut facade to allow the sound to emanate, original lettering "Gavioli & Cie, Avenue de Taillebourg 2 bis, Paris" and an inlay brass medallion indicating Diplome d'Honneur medals won at the 1867 and 1878 Paris International Expositions. Condition: structurally and musically excellent. Comments: Gavioli & Cie, circa 1885, this company, most known today for its carousel and fairground mechanical music, also created a fine selection of these smaller pieces for homes. Value Points: beautifully-preserved, and of finest cabinetry, the organ has original paper 8-tune label, and original paper label with French instructions for use.
