Description
A copper medallion has an image of Amelia Earhart on one side with the message "The First Woman in the world to fly across the Atlantic Ocean", and "Award of the City of Philadelphia" on the opposite. The medallion was sent to Shirley Temple in 1937 by Ellis Gimbel of Gimbel Department Stores who sponsored the honorary banquet for Earhart, along with a letter asking, "Will you accept, with my compliments, the enclosed replica of a Medal that was presented to Amelia Earhart, shortly after her solo flight across the Atlantic when she earned the Gimbel Award as the ïMost Outstanding Woman of America in 1932' ".
