Description
15" (38 cm.) Paper mache head with sculpted black hair in long curls, painted facial features, dark painted eyes, fringed brows, moustache and goatee, closed mouth, on firmly-shaped body with carved wooden hands. Condition: good, with age rubs and dustiness of costume. Comments: French, mid-1800s. Value Points: with rare sculpted goatee and moustache, the soldier wears original woolen military costume and is posed on original wooden base that is lettered "Grenadier 1804 Garde Imperiale".
