Description
10" (25 cm.) 16", and 22" Each is of paper mache with one-piece body and legs, jointed arms, and attached socket head, and includes a swaddling baby, and two others with defined legs; each has sculpted facial features and painting, painted baby caps and baby costumes. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: French, circa 1890, the term "poupard" was used for several centuries to denote a baby in swaddling clothes, but by the end of the 1800s was specifically used to describe these bazaar-quality dolls. Value Points: very fine state of preservation, the dolls are very rare to find, despite (or because of) their bazaar backgrounds.
