12" (30 cm.) Each with paper mache shoulder head, painted facial features, and straw-filled muslin body with paper mache limbs; the aged couple with blue eyes, wrinkles, modeled white thick brows, hinged jaws; the older man with sculpted white pork chop sideburns and paper mache hat.; the bug-eyed character with sculpted black curly hair, hinged jaw, chin moustache, and small yellow hat. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Germany, circa 1900, the man represented Foxy Grandpa from the US comic strip series of the era. The storyline of Foxy Grandpa detailed the exploits of a Grandpa who constantly out-tricked his mischievous grandchildren, a reversal of The Katzenjammer Kids storyline; the woman and bug-eyed fellow represent other comic characters. Value Points: rare dolls in perfectly preserved state.
