28" (71 cm.) Bisque socket head with very full cheeks and throat, large brown glass paperweight inset eyes, thick dark eyeliner, painted lashes, mauve-blushed eye shadow, brush-stroked and feathered brows with decorative glaze, accented eye corners, shaded nostrils, closed mouth with defined space between the outlined lips, dimpled chin and philtrum, separately modeled pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, French composition and wooden fully jointed body with straight wrists. Condition: generally excellent, original body and body finish. Marks: 13 (head) Jumeau Medaille d'Or Paris (body). Comments: Emile Jumeau, his portrait bebe sculpted by Carrier-Belleuse, known as Bebe Triste in reference to its wistful sad expression, circa 1884. Value Points: an exceptional example of the beloved bebe whose superb modeling is enhanced by choicest bisque and painting, and beautiful antique costume including black velvet coat with silk and lace detailing, and fancy ruffled bonnet.
