Description
6" (15 cm.) l. box. The wooden box with lithographed paper cover has intricately fitted interior drawers and platforms, which, when removed from the box can be assembled as a multi-tier platform. Included a paper mache man with painted hair, facial features, moustache and goatee, and with wooden block torso and wooden flat hands and feet. When the man is placed on the upper tier, he is weighted to tumble forward and over and down the tiered steps, as though turning somersaults in a graceful smooth manner. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: mid-1800s. Value Points: rare toy that is perfectly preserved; although simple in its appearance, the toy is meticulously designed for perfect balance, and has all original parts, painting and costume.
