13" (33 cm.) Polychromed terra cotta shoulderhead depicting aged bald-headed man with pronounced ears, incised age wrinkles, sculpted thick brows, closed mouth with stern expression, shaded beard stubble, tow-wrapped armature posable body, carved wooden lower arms and legs, painted black stockings, black shoes with red buckles, wearing original costume comprising short silk pants, lined twill coat, silk vest, leather cap, woven shoulder bag, and carrying a sculpted twine-wrapped package of tea. Excellent condition. Neapolitan, mid-1700s, especially fine modeling of face.
