Description
23" (58 cm.) doll. 23" chair. Solid domed paper mache swivel head on matching shoulder plate, tinted gofun finish, half-moon shaped enamel eyes, brushstroked brows, prominent nose, closed mouth with piquant smile, paper-wrapped torso with working bellows crier, composition lower arms and legs, bare feet. Condition: generally excellent, some wear to kimono. Comments: Japan, circa 1890. Value Points: wonderful highly-characterized features, the doll with original lettered signature on torso, wearing original padded silk crepe kimono. The doll is seated in a silk upholstered wooden chair in the Hepplewhite style (which is included).
