10" (25 cm.) Bisque socket head with highly characterized facial sculpture of kindly old gentleman based upon the Thomas Nast drawings of Uncle Sam, angular face with prominent nose, cheek bones and jaw, blue glass inset eyes, sculpted grey brows, closed mouth, beaming smile, incised and highlighted age wrinkles, grey mohair wig and beard, Sonneberg composition and wooden fully-jointed body. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: S 3 Germany. Comments: Cuno and Otto Dressel, circa 1895, from their series of American historical figures. Value Points: well-rendered portrait of the notable symbolic figure, with factory original costume.
