Each is all terra cotta with swivel head, sculpted facial features, jointed arms and legs, she with red hair arranged with topknot, spit curls and chignon and with sculpted earrings and side-glancing eyes painted ballet slippers and silk and net ballet costume; and he with painted grey pate, upper glancing eyes, painted shoes with pom-poms, and wearing original silk Pierrot costume with ruffled collar and silk pom-poms. Condition: Good, she with split at back torso, original costumes are frail. Marks: Willette (ink script on feet). Comments: Pierrot and Columbine were designed by French artist Adolphe Willette, and produced under commission by the Parisian publishing firm of P.J. Gallais, circa 1917. Value Points: rare to find whimsical renditions of the Parisian popular culture figures.
