13" (33 cm.) Bisque socket head with highly characterized facial sculpture based upon the Thomas Nast drawings of Uncle Sam, angular face with prominent nose, cheek bones and jaw, brown glass inset eyes, very thick sculpted grey brows, closed mouth, beaming smile, incised and highlighted age wrinkles, white mohair wig and beard, Sonneberg composition and wooden fully-jointed body. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: S 3 Germany. Comments: Cuno and Otto Dressel, circa 1895, from their American historical series. Value Points: especially fine modeling enhanced by artistic painting, the doll is all-original and wears factory original costume.
