Description
4" (10 cm.) A young lady posed semi-profile has long straight hair that flows behind a wide turban-like scarf with crown bow, and with softly-formed bangs and curls in front of her ears, painted brown eyes wearing a low-necked white blouse with tucks, lace and blue ribbon band. The painting is set in a brass oval frame enclosed by elaborately scrolled easel back outer frame. An inscription on the back identifies the woman as "The Hon'r Maria Josepha Holroyd, afterwards Lady Stanley of Alderley"; the Stanley family was prominent in British peerage during the 1800s.
