16" (41 cm.) Cloth head with pressed and painted facial features, large blue side-glancing painted eyes, brown upper eyeliner, two white accent dots in each eye, "dot" brows, rosebud-shaped lips of closed mouth, fleecy blonde mohair wig, pink muslin body with jointing at shoulders and hips. Condition: doll is excellent, silk dress is frail. Marks: Les Poupees en Etoffe "La Venus" Modeles Deposes A.C. Paris (label on box). Comments: Adrien Carvaillo, who with his wife Marie Laure, introduced the line of Venus dolls about 1921; this model is similar to one shown in the Etrennes catalog of Printemps department store of that year. Value Points: earliest period of the rare "Venus" doll has wonderful wig, artistic painting, is wearing original frail silk dress, black velvet jacket with matching beret trimmed with silk rosebuds, undergarments, socks, shoes and is preserved in her original labeled box.
