12" (30 cm.) doll seated. 17"h. dome. A young child having poured wax shoulderhead, blue glass eyes, inserted lashes, closed mouth, inserted blonde hair wig, cloth body with poured wax lower arms and legs posed expressively, is seated on a paper mache base to suggest a seaside hillock, which is decorated with miniature seashells; the doll is wearing original silk ivory gown and undergarments, and the vignette is presented on ebony base under original glass dome. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Continental, early 1800s. Value Points: beautifully-preserved vignette with artistic luxury details of construction such as methodical placement of hair and lashes.
