Description
21" (53 cm.) Felt socket head with pressed and painted facial features, caricature expression of face, plump cheeks, painted wide-open blue upper-glancing eyes, black and brown upper eyeliner, painted lashes and brows, grey eye shadow, button nose with accented nostrils, tiny closed mouth, jointing at shoulders and hips. Condition: excellent condition except fading of costume colors. Marks: Poupees Raynal Marque Depose (paper label on back torso). Comments: from the caricature series introduced by Martha Raynal during the mid-1920s, the doll represents a young girl in Brittany costume, presumably inspired by the popular Becassine. Value Points: wearing original costume of red and white striped skirt and pantalets, red and white woolen stockings, wooden shoes, green felt bodice and apron, red collar, white cotton mob cap.
