18" (46 cm.) Solid domed bisque head with flat-cut neck socket, blue glass inset eyes with darker blue outer rims, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, feathered brows, accented nostrils, open mouth, outlined lips, row of tiny porcelain teeth, blonde mohair wig, carton torso containing clockwork mechanism, composition arms and lower legs. When wound, the doll turns head from side to side, waves arms and legs in babylike fashion, and cries "mama". Condition: generally excellent, mechanism functions. Comments: Jules Steiner, the model was registered by his firm as Bebe Gigoteur. circa 1880. Value Points: an especially pretty example of the realistically-designed bebe, with original paper label from the original Parisian boutique, "Au Bonheur des Enfants", with lovely antique costume, and seated in wooden chair which is included.
