Description
20" (51 cm.) A bisque head doll with amber brown glass paperweight eyes is standing upon a velvet-covered base, with painted long lashes and brows, very slightly-parted lips with tiny stuck-out tongue, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, carton torso and legs, wire upper arms, composition lower arms, wearing amusing costume with silk jacket and shirt, velvet pants, striped stockings, knit stocking cap and apron, and holding a long-handled frying pan (his fiddle) and a fireplace tong (designed as bow). When wound, he performs amusing antics: turns his head, sticks out his tongue at the same time that his hat tips up, and plays the "fiddle", while music plays. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Depose Tete Jumeau Bte SGDG 4 (head). Comments: Roullet et Decamps, circa 1890. Value Points: delightful automaton in both its actions and its imaginative accessories.
