Description
36" (91 cm.) x 29" crest. Mounted on a shield-shaped wooden crest in the manner of a hunting trophy is the head of Gump, a character in the "The Land of Oz" story by L. Frank Baum. The rubber mask head has woolly-hair beard, wooden antlers, and well-painted stylized features. Gump appeared in "The Land of Oz" episode of Shirley Temple's NBC Storybook series, appearing as the head on the two-sofas-put-together chariot body. So beloved was he by Shirley and her own young children that Gump was brought home, affectionately renamed Gumpus Ozus, and given a place of honor on the family-room wall for decades.
