17" (43 cm.) Terra cotta shoulder head with painted complexion, sculpted grey hair brushed from his face and into tousled arrangement, stippled detail of hair at the forehead, sculpted beard, enamel eyes with heavy eyelids. brush-stroked brows, strong nose, slightly-parted lips with sculpted teeth, hemp-wrapped body, terra hands and lower legs with exquisitely-defined hands and feet, original silk costume. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Neapolitan, early 1800s. Value Points: outstanding sculpting of hair, beard and moustache, incised age lines, defined musculature on forehead and cheeks.
