16" (41 cm.) Carved wooden head and hands with especially expressive carving of fingers, gofun finish with fine smooth complexion, glass eyes, painted features, aquiline nose, closed mouth with firm expression, painted feathering of hair around the forehead, and black-silk fiber hair, posed seated, wearing trouser and coat combination (kamishimo) with paste-resist chrysanthemums-on-water design, kimono with bold chrysanthemum pattern, breast-plate armor with chased metal fittings which repeat the chrysanthemum-in-water design and a black lacquer court cap. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Meiji, circa 1870. Value Points: the seated noble represents a samurai (musha ningyo) and wears very fine costume with repeated image representing the imperial symbol of the chrysanthemum.
