9" (23 cm.) x 12". The wooden-framed shadow-box with gilt paper edging and glass front has an interior parlor scene with dimensional die-cut figures of two monkeys holding violins. When the box is turned sideways in circles, it causes the internal sand to funnel, and create the monkey actions of playing their violins. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: J.D. (with sunburst symbol, on original label). Comments: Germany, mid-1800s, the original paper label in German and English languages indicates its production for German and English speaking markets. Value Points: well-preserved early sand toy with original label.
