Description
31" (79 cm.) Bisque socket head, deep brown glass paperweight inset eyes, thick dark eyeliner, painted curly lashes, rose-blushed eyeshadow, brushstroked and feathered brows, shaded nostrils, open mouth with slightly-parted lips, two rows of tiny porcelain teeth, pierced ears, dimpled chin, brunette hand-tied human hair wig, French composition and wooden fully-jointed body, upper torso designed with voice holes, nice antique costume. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 12 F.G. (in scroll). Comments: Gaultier, late 1880s, the doll has been preserved in its original box with "Bebe Parisien" label indicating its marketing by the Alexandre Lefebvre firm, according to an article by Samy Odin in Antique Doll Collector of January, 2017. Value Points: intriguing historical references are enhanced by the actual beauty of the pale-complexioned bebe with beautiful brown eyes, holding an early French party marotte with bisque head and silk jester costume.
