31" (79 cm.) Paper mache socket head with character features, upturned nose, smiling expression, white complexion, brown glass enamel inset eyes with heavily modeled eyelids, painted lashes, thickly fringed brows, accented nostrils, dimpled cheeks, black painted pate with stockinette edging, all paper mache body jointed at shoulders, elbows and hips, painted white gloves with detail of seams. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: French, circa 1880. Value Points: wonderful glass-eyed character with original paint, painted gloves, and most elaborate original silk Pierrot costume with blue silk buttons, ties and ribboned ivory silk shoes, ruffled collar.
