15" (38 cm.) Polychromed terra cotta shoulderhead of slender-faced gentleman with head turned to the side, brown sculpted curls framing the face and bald pate, incised wrinkles, enamel eyes, strong nose, closed mouth modeled as though open with painted teeth, tow-wrapped armature posable body, carved wooden lower arms and legs, painted wrinkled blue stockings and black shoes with silver buckles, wearing original costume comprising wide-sleeved white cotton shirt under fitted vest, draped sash, neck shawl, velvet gold short pants, white cap, and a lined jacket tossed loosely over his shoulder. Excellent condition. Neapolitan, mid-1700s, especially notable angular and distinctive facial modeling.
