11" (28 cm.) Each has bisque socket head, cobalt blue glass enamel inset eyes, painted lashes and brows, closed mouth with nicely accented lips, mohair wig, firm muslin body, terra cotta hands. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Barrois, circa 1870. Value Points: beautifully preserved pair wear exceptionally detailed costumes from Pas-de-Calais on the northern coast of France, including accessories such as fishing basket with sea shaells, fishing net, rope, and barrel, the costumes including authentic head wear, and linen and woolen clothing, the man with goatee, sideburns, and painted black boots. Preserved under a glass dome, the pair was presented in the book, French Dolls in Folklore Costumes by Florence Theriault.
